Social media ca be good for science outreach as long as we don’t let it rule our lives and personalities. Getting less “likes” o social media on your or my photo or a paper we are trying to share does not undermine you or me, or my paper. Similarly getting more “likes” or shares or retweets does not necessarily mean that we’re better off than our peers who have got less “likes” and shares and retweets. Social media is a bit overrated. We can use it ofcourse but we should be careful that in order to be popular on social media we do not change our real selves and or change our focus. Gosh! This reminds me of a Black Mirror episode.
I think if you use them in the correct way they can be a great tool! I use social media a lot to communicate with people and talk about science but I’m always extremely careful with my personal accounts. Keeping everything personal private and making sure you don’t post or text anything that you don’t want to get out to strangers is super important. Be safe!
