• Question: why does the earth look smooth from space if there's mountains on it?

      Since the ratio of the height of mountains on earth, and the distance between the observer in space and the mountains on earth, is very low, with relatively low resolution cameras the difference in heights between mountains, valleys, etc might not be seen. This would cause the earth to look smooth, I think.

      When something is very small or far away, it’s difficult to see the fine details. Look at this image of a human hair under a microscope – it looks very difficult to a human hair as we see it with our eyes!
