There are many different chemicals in air pollution, most are invisible to the naked eye. Air pollution can come from a variety of sources including transportation such as personal vehicles, trucks, etc; industry such as factories that burn fossil fuels or coal; agriculture that produces methane; and construction machinery that uses fossil fuels. But which is worst? This is a good question. While methane doesn’t linger as long in the atmosphere as carbon dioxide, it is initially far more devastating to the climate because of how effectively it absorbs heat. Methane is 84 times more potent than carbon dioxide!
I actually got to see this for myself as I did some work on the UK’s flying atmospheric lab (aircraft) called FAAM. We were flying over methane leaks, that were caused by gas drilling!
