It’s a fundamental particle, which means that it’s not made up of anything. It’s a fundamental building block of everything around us, like an electron or a neutrino.
Just to make things clear, electrons and neutrinos are not made up of quarks. They are part of a separate family of particles known as ‘leptons’. Quarks are indeed fundamental and, as far as we know, cannot be broken down into smaller parts. Quarks make up ‘hadrons’ which are another group of particles. Different combinations of different types of quarks make up each hadron. Protons and neutrons are examples of hadrons.
