      According to Neil deGrasse Tyson this is a philosophical question.

      Another way however to look at it is maybe shadows are patches of darkness ad shadows can elongate and thus move faster than the object casting the shadow. It is a way to philosophize a little action and its possible overwhelming consequences. “Speed of dark” is a thought experiment.

      Light is a real thing – it’s a sort of particle/wave mish-mash (we call them ‘photons’) that interacts with other objects. Dark is just the absence of photons, rather than a thing in itself. The more photons we have, the less dark we have.
