I’ve been a lecturer for the last two years, but have been doing scientific research for the last six or seven. I think that the best part of lecturing is actually working with students every day and developing the great scientists of the future. It’s so satisfying when you see a student start with low confidence, but finish the Foundation Year as the best student in the whole group.

I have been studying science for 10 years now (I can’t believe it’s been that long!) and I’ve been doing my doctorate for over 3 years. I’m now in my 4th and final year of this degree which means I have to write a big book about all the work I’ve done and get examined on it (yes, I’m very scared!).

I am a PhD student since October 2016. I am currently in the final year of my 4 year PhD program.
Using computer codes which I write, I find hidden patterns in the interaction of hormones which cause some serious illness in babies and children. I share this knowledge with my doctor friend Liz. This helps Liz to treat the babies and children faster. The best part is the satisfaction of being able to help in early diagnosis of disease, that too in babies and children, and additionally being able to use computer codes to add knowledge to the part of medical science dealing with children and hormones. Along with this I myself learn a lot about coding, using Maths for solving hormone related puzzles in the human body, about the human body itself from the angle of hormone interaction. The other satisfying part of this research job is that I get to decide my schedule, and manage my projects myself. My supervisor does not interfere.

I have now been doing my job for 2 years and I love it! I am always learning new things from new research, new techniques and new skills. It means the job is always interesting and exciting. Plus everyday is different with new data coming in all the time and new opportunities! I especially like all the challenges that we have to overcome, with systems breaking, dealing with large volumes of data and running out of space!

I have been in research for something like 6 years now. The best part of it is the possibility to communicate with people all over the world. Very few jobs give you such an opportunity. When we go to conferences, symposiums, summer schools, we have the occasion to network with people from everywhere. The power of science allows to put everyone together for a common aim.
